I’ve been curating my Halloween playlists for a couple of years now. I’ve got one for the kids (played for trick-or-treaters) and one for the (mostly adult) party inside.
I think they are a pretty good mix of classic rock, alternative, indie, goth and industrial.
I tweak them a bit every year.
e.g. I dropped “Zombie” by the Cranberries, which isn’t really spooky except for the title. I reluctantly dropped “Sleeping with Ghosts” by Placebo for the same reason. I love that song, and it is pretty eerie, but if you don’t know the title you won’t know why it it is even being played.
One notable addition is “I Walk on Gilded Splinters” by Dr. John. I just discovered the album “Gris Gris” and I love it. You could use it as your entire Halloween soundtrack.
I’ve also added a couple of versions of the “Halloween Theme” – one from the movie soundtrack and an industrial cover by Electric Hellfire Club. My son is obsessed with learning it on piano.
